Putney names new Planning Commission member and emergency management director

Planning Commission Chair Sue Coakley nominated Vanessa Long to the Planning Commission. The board voted to appoint Long for a three‑year term ending on Town Meeting Day 2028 after a motion by Aileen Tulloch and a second from Rebecca "Bex" Slattery.
On emergency management, Town Manager Karen Astley recommended appointing Len Howard III as the Town Emergency Management Director. Len Howard III spoke about his interest in the role. Interim Fire Chief Brian Harlow and resident Elizabeth Wamer voiced support. The board appointed Howard by motion of Aileen Tulloch, seconded by Fletcher Proctor; the motion passed.
These appointments place a new member on the Planning Commission ahead of expected zoning work and name a local point person for emergency planning and the town's Local Emergency Plan.
