The council approved a staff recommendation on June 20 to award filter-to-waste piping modifications at the water production plant to Meridian Contracting for $25,100. Engineering staff said the work implements air gaps to eliminate backflow risk following an EGLE sanitary survey citation; Meridian was the low bidder of two proposals after site visits and discussions with Veolia staff. "Meridian Contracting was the low bid for this work," the engineer reported, and council members voted in favor of the award.
Council also approved a motion to move the Aug. 3, 2026 council meeting start time from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., citing election staffing and scheduling concerns. After that procedural action the council voted to adjourn to closed session to discuss DPW labor-union negotiations. The contract award and meeting-time change were approved by council; the labor negotiations matter was moved to closed session per the motion on the record.
