Engineering review recommended for Country Club Drive 'dip'; water main burst reported during MetroNet work

Maintenance and Zoning Supervisor Rich Schreiber told the board he had met with Ross Perry, an engineer with Withersravenel, who explained that settling of the roadway had caused cracked asphalt and a "dip" in the road likely from compaction of soils around the pipe. Schreiber relayed the engineer's recommendation to excavate around the pipe, backfill to just below the asphalt subgrade with select material (NCDOT Class 2 or 3 backfill or #57 stone), inspect joints for deflection or separation, and wrap any separated joints with geotextile fabric or a rubberized wrap (for example, MacWrap).
Commissioner Billy Joiner asked whether Powell funds could be used for the repair; Finance Officer Brenda Reece said she would look into feasibility. Schreiber also reported that a main water line burst while MetroNet was working in the area and said maintenance staff will monitor restoration and cleanup.
