Howard County commissioners voted to approve a seasonal influenza vaccine order for county employees reduced to 130 doses, county health staff told the board.
Kelly, speaking for the health department, said last year the county ordered 175 doses and used 84. "I suggest 130 doses," Kelly said, adding that many residents obtain shots at retail pharmacies and that older residents often receive the higher‑dose vaccine covered by Medicare. The 130 doses were estimated to cost $4,940.
Commissioners discussed whether additional doses could be obtained if demand exceeded the order; Kelly said more could be administered through insurance billing in the office and county programs exist to help uninsured people. A motion to approve the seasonal flu vaccine order passed by voice vote.
The action directs staff to place the 130‑dose order and to coordinate administration through the county clinic and existing outreach channels.
