Housing task force pushes ADU outreach and grant assistance; Selectboard urges coordination with advisory committee

Members of Putney's housing groups told the Selectboard on June 25 they are pursuing multiple approaches to local housing needs, including accessory dwelling unit (ADU) outreach, grant assistance and closer coordination with the town's Housing Advisory Committee.
Marcella Eversole of the Putney Housing Solutions Task Force said the group worked with the Planning Commission and the Vermont Council on Rural Development to deliver an ADU event supported by grant funding, and is helping residents apply for VHIP funds for housing improvements and energy upgrades. Eversole announced a public meeting on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 7 p.m. at the Putney Public Library to discuss funding and application help.
Selectboard members asked the Town's Housing Advisory Committee to check its charge and Open Meeting Law compliance after members raised concerns about an unwarned May meeting. Mike Mrowicki, reporting for the Housing Advisory Committee, suggested adding "Home Energy" to the committee name to attract volunteers; board members said a formal resolution would be needed to change the committee name and asked the committee to present how it will deliver on assigned charges.
Town Manager Karen Astley and several Selectboard members commended the volunteer work and encouraged collaboration among groups to leverage grants and avoid duplication. No formal action was taken on committee name changes at the June 25 meeting.
