Director Brock Carter presented a recommended extension of the district’s pupil-transportation contract with 1st Student through 06/30/2027 and described elements of a draft routing plan.
Carter said presentation materials show the number of students per bus rising (noted in the presentation as increasing from 40 to 48 and an average of 46 students per route) and that the high school portion of the plan would be reduced to seven routes. Trustees questioned how many routes would be cut, how ride times might change, and whether proposed reductions were justified given student counts and route geography. Carter offered to share the vendor PowerPoint with details by building and to return with specific routing and cost data.
The board moved and approved the extension on a roll call after discussion. Trustees affirmed the need for close oversight of contracted services and asked staff to continue negotiating management fees and route options to protect student service levels while addressing district budget pressures.
