Council considers rezoning of 9-acre parcel to allow barn and horses

Council considered Ordinance No. 2026-14 for one reading only and heard a presentation from a land-surveying representative on behalf of property owners Caleb and Casey Ware.
The presenter described the property as roughly 9.07 acres on the edge of the city's jurisdictional limits, adjacent to youth sports complex fields. He said the request is to rezone from RR (rural residential) to A-1 agricultural to permit a storage building with a horse stable component and an electrified fence and to avoid seeking multiple variances that would otherwise be required in RR zoning. "That's what's driving the request for the rezone as opposed to seeking multiple variances," the representative said.
Council members confirmed neighbors were contacted and the planning commission had recommended approval unanimously. One council member noted the alternative would require several variances in the RR zone; the applicant's representative said the A-1 designation was the simplest path to permit horses and the structures shown in the application. No remonstrators spoke against this item at that time in chambers.
