McDowell County Schools seeks players for e-sports team, flags evening transportation limits

The board heard an update on the district e-sports program: staff said they still need 10 students to fill all roster seats and have opened registration to students in game- and coding-related CTC courses. “So we're still in need of 10 students, to fill all the seats,” the presenter said.
The presenter said the program has recruited some eighth-graders at the request of a coach and will continue outreach to high schools, but that evening transportation remains a challenge. Staff described two bus drivers available for runs back to Riverview High School and Mountain View area but said transportation logistics may limit evening participation for some students. The board confirmed that no additional facilities are being added and the program will use existing spaces.
