During the March 9 meeting, members flagged the bridge on the center trail at Downer Forest as needing replacement log stringers. The minutes note decking and possibly a rail would be helpful; Sam Brakley will ask Brian Renfroe (Forest, Parks and Recreation) to confirm the condition and prior work. The record says new logs were placed about five to six years ago.
The commission also noted trail access constraints: the center trail is fairly narrow and a tractor cannot reach some sections. Logan Sears is hired to brush-hog the trails once a year in the fall; the Bridge Trail and other routes may be more accessible to heavier machinery.
