Bisbee awards $274,770 contract to rebuild failed retaining wall on Brewery Avenue

The Bisbee Council unanimously approved awarding the retaining wall reconstruction contract at 61 Brewery Avenue to Sellers and Sons of Tucson for $274,770, including a one-year warranty. Public Works Director Matthew Gurney said the project uses a shotcrete and soil-nail system to stabilize the site and prevent further deterioration; the city received seven bids and the low bidder was recommended based on evaluation by the project engineer.
Councilmembers asked why repairs took a year to reach this point; Gurney said the project was redesigned after an initial solicitation and subsequent re-solicitation produced only one high bid, extending the timeline. He said the walkway will be closed during active construction but access to the adjacent residence will be maintained and the contractor expects to finish by about Sept. 15, weather permitting.
