Bisbee adopts updated model building, plumbing, electric, fire and related codes

The Bisbee Mayor and Council unanimously approved a package of ordinances to update the city's professional code library, adopting recent model code publications and repealing a prior fire-code article. City Attorney Joseph Estes prefaced the items, explaining that model codes are revised periodically and municipalities may adopt them with local amendments. The package included O-26-10 through O-26-16 (adopting 2023–2024 building and safety codes) and O-26-17 (repeal of an earlier International Fire Code article).
Presenters included Building Inspector Xavier Rodriguez and Fire Chief Jim Richardson; each ordinance was moved and approved by roll call with seven ayes. The council recorded adoption of the 2024 International Building Code, 2024 International Plumbing Code, 2023 National Electric Code, 2024 International Fire Code, 2024 International Mechanical Code, 2024 International Property Maintenance Code, and adoption of the 2024 Fuel Gas Code, 2024 International Energy Conservation Code and the 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code where applicable. Estes noted the model codes are updated "every two to four years based on experience from municipalities worldwide," providing the rationale for the package.
