Selectmen table Wolfeboro Dock Company barge permit while attorneys review Libby trust language

Selectmen halted action on a commercial barge landing permit for the Wolfeboro Dock Company and asked the town attorney to consult the Charitable Trust Unit (CTU) about whether the will governing the Libby property permits commercial operations at the dock.
A board member read language from Dr. Libby’s will that calls for the land to be used for the “perpetual benefit and use of the general public” and states that “no building or superstructure or obstruction of any nature shall ever be erected, maintained, or permitted on the aforesaid land in front of the museum or in the waters abutting thereon so as to mar or interfere with a beautiful view.” One selectman argued that permitting barges could conflict with that language; others pointed out the charitable-trust division has previously reviewed documentation and not raised use concerns but that the will had not been fully vetted for commercial permissions.
The board moved and seconded a motion to table the barge-permit approval for the Wolfeboro Dock Company until the town attorney and the CTU issue guidance. The board said existing, previously authorized operators would not be halted immediately while legal review proceeds.
