Guest Kevin Kumpf asks to involve residents in Hill District review, raises Euclid Avenue tree concerns

Kevin Kumpf, a guest at the March 16 meeting of the Pierre/Ft. Pierre Historic Preservation Commission, presented three items the community wants the commission to consider. He said the commission’s historic booklets need updates, that residents impacted by the Euclid Avenue rebuilding project have concerns about replanting trees, and that Pierre Historic Hill District residents want to be involved if the district nomination is reviewed and revised.
President Kelli Buscher invited Kumpf to share the updates and said they "will be addressed before the next printing." Kumpf suggested the commission coordinate tree-planting ideas and potential funding with the Pierre Arbor Committee. Buscher noted tree planting and street reconstruction are largely outside the commission’s direct authority and said she would share the suggestion with the Department of Transportation and Pierre city staff.
Kumpf also asked to be included in any nomination review for the Pierre Historic Hill District, specifically calling out proposed changes to Elizabeth Street between Euclid and Grand Avenues. The request was recorded for follow-up; commission members agreed to bring the concerns to the relevant city and SHPO review processes.
