Council approves consent agenda; audit corrective action for recreation utility included in 2026 budget

Piscataway Township Council approved its consent agenda by unanimous roll call vote during the July 21 meeting.
Business Administrator Paula Casarelli told the council the annual audit covered roughly $98 million of the township budget and produced a single corrective action: an underestimation of operational costs in the recreation utility for 2025. "That corrective action was put in our 2026 budget," Casarelli said, noting the recreation utility serves ratepayers and residents who use the pools and community spaces.
Casarelli also explained a Department of Defense surplus program (the resolution on the consent agenda) that allows state and local entities to request and accept decommissioned equipment when appropriate; she gave the example of a high-water rescue vehicle valued at about $250,000 the township had received previously. Residents asked whether acceptance was automatic; staff clarified the council was authorizing participation in the program, and any specific acceptance would be subject to a separate approval process.
Council members moved and seconded the consent agenda and voted to approve the bundled items. The council did not remove any items for separate discussion at this meeting.
