Trustees approve $150-per-home assessment increase for 2026–27 budget

Trustee Kyle Weatherly, who moved the increase, summarized the district’s finances during the budget discussion: “We are approximately $200,000 short; our total anticipated operating costs are $730,300 per year and what we bring in for the assessment alone is only $538,422.” The board’s action followed a review of the proposed 2026–27 budget, which the treasurer presented as reflecting no other increases to operating assumptions.
The assessment vote was seconded by Trustee Barbara Susdorf and passed without opposition. Chair Cori Howell cautioned that a rise in resident usage relative to non-residents could strain services given the district’s lower resident rates.
The measure is intended to cover operating shortfalls rather than project-specific capital spending; trustees noted rental income is not guaranteed and recommended channeling storm-damage rental income into reserves.
