County to seek architect review for Houston County Health Department exterior repairs
Summary
Staff requested authorization to hire Gosselin Architecture LLC for about $15,000 to diagnose water intrusion and design a least-invasive repair to rusted angle irons and brick supports at the Houston County Health Department; staff said three areas are badly deteriorated and the affected building sections are over 30 years old.

Chair introduced an item asking the commission to enter into an agreement with Gosselin Architecture LLC for approximately $15,000 to develop repair plans for the Houston County Health Department.
County staff member Tommy explained that angle irons supporting brick above several windows are rusting because water is getting behind the brick, and that three locations are severely deteriorated while others show corrosion. “Water is getting behind it and rusting those angles out,” Tommy said, adding that the goal is to have an architect review plans and propose a least-invasive fix before cutting out bricks so the masonry match is minimally impacted. Staff estimated parts of the building are over 30 years old and noted the state is already performing interior repainting and trim work; nonetheless the county has a duty to provide and maintain the office space. Commissioners placed the agreement on the Monday agenda with no objection for the full board to authorize contracting and funding.
No binding contract was executed at the administrative meeting; the issue will return for a formal vote and any required budget action at the regular meeting.
