Travis, the meeting presenter, told the Grayson County board that his group has submitted a letter to the Grayson County Economic Development Authority expressing intent to purchase Baywood School and associated property and to operate it as a shared facility for nonprofits and small businesses. “Our purpose in acquiring this property is to establish a foundation of community growth and sustainability by supporting multiple 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and small business headquarters within the facilities,” he said.
The presenter described a multi‑phase plan that would include childcare, a commercial kitchen, community education and walking trails, and he said the project team has completed feasibility work and community meetings. He told the board that engineers have produced an overall estimate for the full set of phases that the group summarized as “over $6,000,000.” Travis said the group is pursuing a Brownsville feasibility grant as the first step and intends to layer additional grants through participating nonprofits to fund renovation and program startup.
Travis asked the board to consider the community value of hosting childcare and day‑program health services as early priorities and emphasized that the proposal aims to reduce county maintenance obligations by transferring upkeep and insurance responsibilities to the group if the purchase proceeds. The presenter offered to provide detailed packet material and follow up with any additional questions from the board.
