Sheriff announces five jail hires and accepts $9,750 American Heart Association grant for AEDs

Sheriff Scott Cicirello reported recent training hosted at the Public Safety Facility and said five lateral transfers will join the jail (one sergeant from Chemung County and four Corrections Officers from Cattaraugus County). He requested permission to fill five Corrections Officer positions (Council 82); the committee approved and referred the hiring request to Ways and Means.
Cicirello also requested acceptance of a $9,750 American Heart Association Mary Vohar Lilley Community Impact Grant to purchase, deploy and maintain AED equipment and provide CPR/AED training for deputies. He said the AEDs will be installed in civil cars — the vehicles with the most community engagement — to improve medical response capability; the committee approved accepting the grant and referred the appropriation to Ways and Means.
Next steps: Ways and Means will consider appropriations for the grant and the Sheriff’s Office will proceed with onboarding the lateral transfers and processing the five vacancies.
