Probation Director Jessica McKnight asked the committee to authorize applying for the NYS DCJS STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant for $75,000. McKnight said the grant would help establish a multidisciplinary, victim‑centered, trauma‑informed team focused on identifying and managing individuals who pose high risk for domestic violence, stalking or related homicide. The committee approved the request and referred the application to Ways and Means.
McKnight clarified the STOP grant does not fund a full‑time position; the recently hired assistant will spearhead the team if awarded and the office could cover the position if future grant cycles do not continue funding. The committee also approved acceptance and appropriation of a $100 donation for the STOP‑DWI program for printing and microfilming.
Next steps: staff will submit the grant application and, if awarded, implement training and team organization plans described in the application.
