Allegany County advances EMS Comprehensive Plan and creates Emergency Services Assistant position

Deputy Director Bonnie VanHousen reported the county is working on the Western New York Regional Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Plan and that the Incident Action Plan (IAP) for the Fair is ready. She said the county received the EMS Comprehensive Plan framework from New York State and will work with EMS agencies, the EMS Advisory Board and municipalities to finalize the plan for submission to the New York State Department of Health in December.
VanHousen also said the EMS Summer Academy began with five students and that the office is providing CPR training for the Summer Youth Employment Program. To improve administrative balance, she requested creation and filling of one full‑time Emergency Services Assistant position (AFSCME, Grade 13); the committee approved the creation and referred the fill to Ways and Means. Chairman Havey said the new assistant positions will help ensure accreditation requirements and daily operations are covered.
VanHousen warned communities about extreme heat and urged hydration and cooling measures. The committee approved moving ahead with staffing changes and continued plan development.
