A staff speaker noted that a previous aquatic-center master plan included a long-term concept for a lazy river in the back of the facility, but said staff are weighing that against a nearer-term proposal for a rentable pavilion that could deliver more immediate benefits. The speaker cited staffing challenges, installation costs and ongoing operating costs as constraints for adding a lazy river.
"Part of the reason those photos were submitted is I don't have a deep photo deck... We did a master plan for the aquatic center a couple years ago, and that does call for a lazy river... giving staffing challenges, installation cost, and the cost to keep it up and running in addition to the pool that's already there," the staff member said, adding that a rentable pavilion might provide more tangible near-term benefits. Committee members asked staff to retain the current language and flagged the overlap between the two items for future discussion.
