The Roeland Park City Council voted April 6 to adopt the city—s 2026 strategic plan and the parks master plan after a final review and recommendation from the strategic planning committee.
City Administrator Keith Moody told the council the documents represent 11 months of investment, engagement, and committee work and include spreadsheets staff will use to provide quarterly progress reports on each strategic initiative. "We—re also including the spreadsheets that we will use to quarterly report on progress of each of the strategic initiatives reflected in both the strategic plan and in the parks master plan so that we can keep the council apprised as well as reporting out to our community on how we are using their input in guiding our decision making in the future," Moody said.
The council moved to adopt (1st Madigan; 2nd Liro) and approved the plans by voice vote. Council members and staff noted the plans will guide project prioritization and budget decisions and asked for transparent, periodic status updates on deliverables and timelines.
What happens next: Staff will begin quarterly reporting to the council against the plan spreadsheets and will present objective-status updates as part of regular reporting. Any major budget requests or projects tied to the plans will return to the council for separate approval.
