Police chief: overall crime trending down; thefts rose due to one repeat offender

On thefts, Hoeness explained the apparent increase was driven by one individual responsible for multiple incidents: "Our thefts went up by 1, but the reason our thefts went up was we had 1 individual that committed 9 thefts over a period of time, and each one of those has to be reported," he said. The chief also reviewed a single minor traffic crash involving a bicycle where the bicyclist declined transport and highlighted the department's co‑responder program data. Council had no follow-up questions at the presentation's close.
