Roeland Park council approves $16,250 irrigation contract for neighborhood park

The Roeland Park City Council voted to approve a contract with Smith Brothers for installation of a park irrigation system, with the contract capped at $16,250. City Administrator Keith Moody summarized the scope and said the bid is well within the $34,000 the council had contemplated for that component of the project.
Moody told the council the current scope does not include an underground rainwater-capture cistern but that the city could add that feature later if the council directs it. Council members raised safety and liability concerns about an in-ground holding tank and sought assurances about access covers and mosquito controls. "Although there were some concerns expressed at the time, there was not a final decision made on if there would be this rainwater capture system," Moody said. After discussion, the council approved the irrigation contract by voice vote.
