Parks and Recreation Superintendent Nathan Brundgaard told council that pool memberships and staffing are progressing but certification timing is a key constraint ahead of the summer season. He reported 52 memberships sold, with 20 "super pass" additions, and said staff are pursuing certifications for roughly 18 lifeguards who still need training. Brundgaard said he has 12 interviews scheduled this week and expects partnerships with neighboring cities and YMCA classes could help reach a target of about 30 certified lifeguards.
"If I'm unable to get everyone certified before the Saturday before Memorial Day, I may have to push back opening the pool until Memorial Day itself," Brundgaard said. The superintendent said the fence and old natural-gas line near the diving-board area have been removed and concrete seating work is scheduled; a shade structure was described as a likely after-season addition. Council members asked for clarifying details and staff indicated efforts to train staff and coordinate certification sessions with nearby jurisdictions.
