Roeland Park staff told the council a series of safety issues discovered when assembling the Mighty Bike on site require additional work to finish the structure safely for public use. Project manager Dan Miller recommended approving a change order of $45,000 to the existing contract with Dimensional Innovations to complete safety-related modifications, netting a new total project cost around $336,000.
"I recommend the staff approve a change order with Dimensional Innovations in the amount of $45,000 to the existing contract to complete the safety features on the mighty bike," Miller said during the presentation. City Administrator Keith Moody described the funding mix, saying grants and private donations total about $175,000 while the city's share would be about $161,000. Council members approved the change order by voice vote and staff said they aim to complete the work by Memorial Day weekend, dependent on powder‑coating schedules and supplier timelines.
