Council approves $1.54 million contract for 51st and 55th Street projects

Roeland ParkCity Council voted to award a contract to JM Fahey Construction for the 51st Street and 55th Street projects at an amount not to exceed $1,538,433.25. Public Works staff said the scope includes mill-and-overlay pavement work, sidewalk repairs, curb-and-gutter replacement and limited storm-pipe work.
Public Works described the 51st Street work as extending from Cedar Street to just west of Knoll with an 8-foot sidewalk added on the south side and a road-narrowing to 10-foot lanes to encourage lower speeds. Staff said the 55th Street work covers the corridor from Toronto Mission Parkway to the boulevard with overlay, spot sidewalk replacement and pavement markings. "JM Fahey was the low bidder on a total cost of $1,538,433.25," said the Public Works presenter during the meeting. After a motion and second, the council approved the award by voice vote.
The staff presentation noted ongoing easement acquisitions for both projects and a planned public hearing (51st Street, May 13; 55th Street, May 7) as part of the right-of-way process. Council members did not request additional changes during the voting sequence.
