The Colonie Planning Board voted to grant concept acceptance for a parking expansion behind the Lea Toyota and Dodge Ram dealerships at 2120 Central Avenue. Andrew Missoula of Lansing Engineering told the board the plan adds roughly 122 new stalls, largely by restriping existing asphalt and replacing an open stormwater basin with a subsurface system to allow parking on top. "Existing green space is approximately 34.11%," he said, and the applicant is proposing to buy down to 30% with a fee the applicant estimated at "roughly $389,000."
Town designated engineer Ryan said the subsurface system must account for the treatment and volume previously provided and asked that the fencing and guardrail design protect the wetlands and prevent cars from entering sensitive areas. Board members asked the applicant to provide truck turning movements, noted that split‑rail fences would be inadequate where plowing or vehicle impacts could occur, and requested that fence details and turning diagrams be included before final approval.
After the discussion the board moved and approved concept acceptance by voice vote; the matter will proceed to detailed engineering/completeness review by the town designated engineer before the board takes final action.
