Oak Park sets early voting schedule, alerts two precincts to temporary new polling locations

Deputy City Clerk and Director of Elections JoLynn Williams notified the council that early voting for the Aug. 4 state primary will open Saturday, July 25 and run through Aug. 2, with daily hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and an extended Thursday night until 8 p.m. She advised that absentee ballots have been mailed (approximately 7,000) and that about 24% have been returned so far.
Williams told the council that Precinct 3 — normally at Pepper Elementary School — will vote at the community center (14300 Oak Park Boulevard) for this election only, and Precinct 6 — normally at Einstein Elementary School — will vote at Oak Park High School (13701 Oak Park Boulevard). She said mailings were sent but that some were returned, so the city is reiterating the temporary changes online and via outreach.
Williams also explained that absentee ballots may be returned in person through Aug. 3 and that voters who wait until Aug. 3 must vote their ballot on-site; ballots returned on election day cannot be taken home. She answered a council question about preregistration for 17-year-olds turning 18 before the election: they may register in person now but the registration becomes effective when they reach 18.
