Council approves task order to design permanent traffic calming on Buena Vista

Public Works Director Donnie Scharf briefed the council on next steps for long‑term traffic calming along Buena Vista between Elage and 53rd Street. Scharf summarized the data collection and temporary measures installed earlier in the process: "We did the pre pre data as far as traffic volume speeds. And then once these were implemented, we actually did the after and actually showed that, it there's reduction in actual vehicle speeds." He said staff reached out to adjacent residents, met a threshold of approval required under the process, and now seek engineering design for four locations.
Council members asked about coordination with neighboring Fairway (traffic circle at 53rd) and timing; Scharf said construction is anticipated this year and will be coordinated to avoid school traffic periods. The council voted to approve the task order to proceed with engineering design. Staff will return with design plans and a proposed construction schedule for council review.
