The Siuslaw School District board approved the Early Literacy Success school district grant application for the 2025–27 biennium, authorizing two biannual plans focused on curriculum, staff training, and a literacy coach. Administration said carryover funds combined with the next two years of allocations will allow staffing and materials purchases, with an estimated $3,000 per year to be covered from the general fund for a literacy coach position depending on experience and placement.
A staff member who worked on the training said previous investments (iReady, Orton‑Gillingham) and staff training produced measurable gains in reading and that adding a literacy coach would improve use of diagnostic data and classroom instruction. The board adopted the application by resolution and will submit the plan to the Oregon Department of Education by the April 30 deadline.
