Jeff Walker, property agent with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD), told the Siuslaw School District 97J board that OPRD staff recently discovered a one‑acre parcel (Township 16 South, Range 12 West Section 34 Tax Lot 500) inside the Siuslaw Head Lighthouse scenic viewpoint that records show is owned by the district. The parcel sits roughly a quarter‑mile north of the existing Cedarhead Lighthouse parking lot along Cape Creek Road.
Walker said OPRD engaged a licensed real estate professional to provide an opinion of value and that OPRD is prepared to present an offer of $45,000 for the district's consideration, subject to the agency's commission approval process. The superintendent explained the property had been held by the district for decades (granted prior to consolidation in the 1950s) and noted potential liability concerns for owning a small parcel surrounded by state park land. The board agreed the matter should be placed on next month's agenda and discussed in executive session if the board wants to discuss real estate negotiation strategy.
