Administrators presented the first reading of the operational contract for Whitmore Classical Academy (presented as the Siuslaw Valley Charter School contract) that will define the school’s relationship with the district if approved.
The superintendent noted the framework was developed from prior sponsorship agreements and negotiated across the spring and summer; directors were advised to categorize questions as legal/technical (which the administration can address) or operational (to send to the charter board). "Please don't ask me how they are going to do this. They need to tell you how they are going to do this," administration said, asking that operational queries be routed to the charter board in advance so it can prepare for the second reading. The board's legal counsel has already reviewed the document, administration said. The contract will return for a second reading and vote in September.
Directors praised the negotiation process and said the document reflected careful work between the parties.
