Council recognizes Riley Mullen’s Eagle Scout project painting town fire hydrants

The council presented a citation to Riley Mullen in recognition of earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Anne Walbilek (S10), assistant scoutmaster for Troop 1139 in Slatersville, said Riley has been with scouts since childhood and led an Eagle project to paint and restore town fire hydrants; she and others cited a count of approximately 55 hydrants repainted.
Bill DeCoteau (S11), superintendent of water and sewer, praised Mullen’s leadership, saying the project improved hydrant visibility for public safety and that the town’s small staff welcomed the assistance. Riley told the council he chose the project after driving through town and seeing many hydrants in need of paint; he said planning took about six months and the work was completed in a single community work day.
