District maintenance supervisor details summer upgrades: playgrounds, HVAC fixes and safety work

Donnie Daniels, the district’s maintenance supervisor, briefed the board on a lengthy list of summer facilities work intended to reduce future disruption and address safety issues.
Daniels said crews installed two new elementary playgrounds, rerouted rain drains that had been leaking into classrooms, and replaced non-code wiring in a construction shed. He told directors maintenance staff installed a new lockdown system at the middle and high schools so a single button triggers a full lock, added return-air filters after finding sawdust buildup in a wood-shop return that presented an ignition risk, and completed gym floor refinishing and wall painting. "We had it clean, and we installed return air filters on all the grills to help stop that and instructed the teacher to make sure that the dust collectors are always on," Daniels said. He also reported a new bus approach was built to meet state loading standards and that newly installed elevators/lifts for accessibility would be inspected next week.
Board members thanked Daniels and the maintenance team for the work and said many projects were intended to be invisible to students when classes resumed.
