Climate activist urges Siuslaw SD to pursue federal direct-pay for clean energy

Michael Allen, identifying himself as co-leader of the Florence Climate Emergency Campaign, used the public comment period to highlight opportunities for clean-energy funding available to tax-exempt local entities under the Inflation Reduction Act.
Allen said he raised the issue at a recent town hall with U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden and that the senator suggested local governments pursue direct-pay benefits. "Direct pay is a way for state and local governments and other tax-exempt entities like nonprofits to recover costs of making clean energy investments after the project is placed in service," Allen said, and offered to provide written links and registration guidance to district staff. He also said two Siuslaw High School students participated in an Oregon Climate Educator Summit and that recordings would be shared with the district.
Board members thanked Allen for the information and said they would accept his written materials to allow staff time to review feasibility.
