Harford County social services highlights kinship-care gains after Acting Secretary visit

Acting Secretary Stacy L. Rodgers visited Harford County last week and met with the County Executive to review local child-welfare issues, Harford County Department of Social Services Director Cora Grishkot told the Citizen Advisory Board on May 21. Grishkot said the meeting included discussion of H. R. 1 and hospital overstays affecting placement capacity.

Grishkot said the county’s improved kinship care placement rates led to an upcoming media segment that will feature "an interview with a kin family and two kin support workers," and that the agency will hold a Foster Care Graduation celebration on June 23. She also reported staff identified funds to update a children’s playroom; the project is underway and the department plans to provide dinner for board members at the June meeting at Bond Street. The reports were presented during the Director’s Report and tied to the department’s outreach and retention efforts.
