"So 45 acres, 39 trees down," staff said while describing the scale of damage to parklands. Staff explained the city solicited seven to eight bids for tree and debris removal, awarded the work to the low bidder, and crews finished major removals at Thomas Park, Sunset Park, Oakdale Park, the cemetery and the country club within days.
Board and staff said volunteers and multiple city crews helped move limbs to the curb for collection; the landfill accepted limb debris for free during the cleanup. Staff noted the city is documenting crew time and expenses and collecting quotes for stump removal. Officials said they will pursue potential reimbursement from FEMA or insurance but cautioned that the process is not quick.
The board discussed the operational response and thanked volunteers and contractors for the rapid turnaround. Staff said additional estimates for stump removal were expected within a week and that public works planned follow-up passes through neighborhoods for remaining debris.
