Staff reports: 2026 calls, arrests and how Salina dispatches patrol beats

Staff presented the quarterly report and walked members through key statistics and the department’s geographic dispatch system.
The staff member told the board there were no bias-based complaints and no use-of-force complaints in the most recent quarter. "In for the 2nd 0.25, we had, no bias based complaints and no use of force complaints. And we've had 13 over just over 13,000 calls for service in 2026 and 596 arrests," the staff member said. Members were directed to charts in the report for year-to-year comparisons.
A board member asked for maps of patrol beats. Staff explained that to support dispatch they use geographic beats and have moved to a North/South officer assignment system. The staff member described the six beats: the North End (Elm Street and up), central beats 2 and 3 split across town, business district 4B (Crawford to Magnolia and Santa Fe), residential beat 5, and the southern beat 6. "So the town is split up into 6 different beats," staff said, and dispatch uses those to route calls while officers are assigned by North and South sides.
Members did not take a formal vote on staffing or deployment changes at the meeting; staff offered to provide beat maps and additional materials on request.
