Commission discusses difficulty finding a reliable shuttle vendor for mountain-biking visitors

Sam Dudley said he had reached out to the Trailhead Motel owners about becoming a shuttle vendor and that prior Walton funding had once subsidized a driver. "I reached out to these people at the Trailhead Motel," Dudley said; commissioners suggested creating a business plan to present to prospective operators and discussed ways to smooth income fluctuations for vendors.
Participants explored hybrid approaches: recruiting a vendor, partnering with motel operators to provide lodging-plus-shuttle services, or operating the shuttle in-house with a shuttle manager who could also handle trail maintenance and social media during downtimes. Commissioners recommended revisiting the issue on a future agenda with a business plan or vendor options for the commission to consider.
