Commissioners and staff spent substantial time discussing why shuttle vendor recruitment has been difficult and options to address it. Sam Dudley said he had reached out to the Trailhead Motel owners about becoming a shuttle vendor and that prior Walton funding had once subsidized a driver. "I reached out to these people at the Trailhead Motel," Dudley said; commissioners suggested creating a business plan to present to prospective operators and discussed ways to smooth income fluctuations for vendors.
Participants explored hybrid approaches: recruiting a vendor, partnering with motel operators to provide lodging-plus-shuttle services, or operating the shuttle in-house with a shuttle manager who could also handle trail maintenance and social media during downtimes. Commissioners recommended revisiting the issue on a future agenda with a business plan or vendor options for the commission to consider.
