Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen reported that the township received an email that appeared to be from Thielen Excavating requesting payment by wire transfer. The clerk said she could not find any outstanding invoice matching the request and contacted Thielen Excavating directly; the vendor confirmed there was no outstanding invoice and the email was a scam.
The board recorded that there are no outstanding invoices with Thielen Excavating and did not authorize any payment related to the fraudulent message. No financial loss to the township was reported at the Sept. 3 meeting.
