Obetz police and administration stress emergency access when considering RV parking rules

City Administrator Rod Davisson noted technical constraints: newer streets with 26-foot pavement should not accommodate two-sided parking because it can reduce travel lanes below safe widths. He told the Committee he contacted the Hamilton Township Fire Department to measure typical vehicle mirror-to-mirror widths and reported an 11-foot measurement, noting an RV's advertised maximum width is 8.5 feet without mirrors. "To get this right, a complete revamp of the parking ordinances need undertaken," Davisson said.
Police Chief Mike Confer, speaking from practical experience as both a public-safety official and an RV owner, said finding a safe parking spot for an RV in residential areas is difficult and supported limiting stays to those that allow emergency passage and maintain sight lines for children and pedestrians. The Committee asked staff to factor travel-lane minimums, vehicle widths and sight-line risks into any revised ordinance.
