Resident questions LATS draft for omitting study of a second access to the island

Christopher Cliff, a member of the public, urged residents to read the Lowcountry Area Transportation Study (LATS) draft strategic plan (public comment open through March 31) and said the document fails to mention a study of a second access to the island. Cliff emphasized prior discussion in 2024 about bridge options and said the draft does not address that element despite earlier indications it would.
He also noted the draft lists a $500,000 review of the corridor from I‑95 to the island as an unfunded item and encouraged residents to submit comments before the March 31 deadline so the committee understands public priorities. "Nowhere in there is any mention of the consideration of a 2nd access to the island," Cliff said.
The council did not vote on the matter; Cliff’s remarks were entered into the public record and he urged broader public participation in the upcoming LATS discussion on April 4.
