CityGo to add ‘orange’ route and adjust several lines to ease crowding

CityGo and OCCK representatives presented proposed fixed‑route adjustments on July 13 and asked the commission to approve changes that include a new orange route serving the south and southwest corridor and schedule adjustments to reduce delays on the heavily used purple route.
An OCCK presenter said the purple route averages more than 5,000 boardings per month and that the orange line will support purple’s punctuality by serving transfers at Planet Dillon’s and Walmart and by stopping at employment and campus destinations including Salina Tech and K‑State. The orange service uses one vehicle from OCCK’s backup fleet, so there is no procurement of new buses required; operating cost implications were included in OCCK’s budget request.
“Orange will support the purple so we can drive safely through town and also create some on‑timeness for that purple route,” the OCCK presenter said. Commissioners asked about transfer points, the proposed 30‑minute headway on orange, and the planned removal of some low‑ridership stops on yellow and red routes. After brief public comment in which no speaker objected, the commission approved the recommended route changes by voice vote, 5‑0.
The changes are slated to launch in October; OCCK said the later county/agency approvals and hiring/training influenced the official launch date.
