The police chief told council the borough will receive a 2027 pedestrian-safety grant of $14,500 from the Division of Highway Traffic Safety to fund pedestrian signage, counters and enforcement efforts starting July 1. "We're excited to have received the award," the chief said, and council thanked staff for applying.
Council and police also discussed the prospect of a multi-year COPS grant that could offset hiring costs and the immediate enforcement implications of newly effective e-bike regulations requiring registration, class distinctions and insurance for certain classes. Officers described enforcement challenges such as identifying registration stickers in the field and relying on moving-violation stops and towing when bikes violate road-use rules.
