Public Works Director Dan Merkh explained the second connection is "considerably larger and more complex than the other" and requires a longer run, a valve and a vault. He said the additional expense will be covered by the Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID) and that the cost remains below the City's budgeted engineer estimate.
Councilmember Clay Longanecker asked why the cost was higher; Merkh responded that the first connection was simpler and shorter, while the second is more than double the length and includes more complicated construction. The motion to approve the change order passed, 4-0.
Staff will coordinate construction with the project schedule and RHID funding to ensure the connection is built to the required standard.
