Edgerton Council adopts 2025 Standard Traffic Ordinance, maintains local UTV opt-out

The City of Edgerton on Aug. 14 adopted Ordinance No. 2181 to incorporate the 52nd edition of the Kansas Standard Traffic Ordinance into local code. Assistant to the City Administrator Kara Banks told council the ordinance aligns city language with the 2025 STO; she said the change ‘‘had no effect on City ordinances’’ regarding the UTV section because the city had opted out.
Councilmember Deb Lebakken moved to approve the ordinance and Councilmember Clay Longanecker seconded; the motion carried 4-0. Mayor Donald Roberts and council asked clarifying questions about the STO changes and staff confirmed the revisions were explanatory rather than substantive. The ordinance will be codified following routine administrative steps.
