Nashua board opens special meeting by reframing goals around governance, not day-to-day management

The Nashua School District board opened a special meeting July 13 in the Nashua North Boardroom to revisit its board goals and how to measure success. Chair called the session to order at 6:07 p.m. and said the board would review why goals matter and how governance differs from management. "Board goals matter because they provide us with a strategic direction," the Chair said, urging trustees to use goals to shape the agenda and increase public trust.
Trustees discussed what belongs to the board — setting policy, creating vision and evaluating the superintendent — and what belongs to administration — staffing, curriculum implementation and day-to-day operations. Several members said reframing the board’s middle goal on staffing into a governance objective (for example, “support workforce stability through policy and budget”) would better match the board’s oversight role. The Chair said she will compile the comments into a revised goals document and return it to the board for review.
