Lafayette to study community center options and pursue land for parks and recreation

Mayor Angeria said an assessment found the original community center building is at the end of its useful life and that continued repairs could cost about $500,000 per year. She framed a council priority to evaluate whether to keep repairing the existing facility or to plan for a new building on the current or a more central site.
The administration will conduct recreational needs assessments across short, medium and long horizons and is actively discussing land acquisition for a playing field, a dog park, a potential mountain-bike pump track, downtown parks called for in the downtown specific plan, and additional indoor recreation space. The mayor said recommendations will seek a balance between financial sustainability and serving community needs.
