The Unified School District No. 467 Board of Education voted unanimously Jan. 21 to enter executive session to discuss matters adversely or favorably affecting a student under the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA). The motion, made by Matt Price and seconded by Adam Marcotte, specified that Superintendent Lori Maxwell, WCES Principal Misty Gardner and WCJSHS Principal Brant Douglas would remain present for the session.
The board stated it would return to open session in the board room at 7:31 p.m., and the minutes record that return. The minutes do not disclose the substance of the executive session; by statute and board practice, confidential student information discussed in executive session is not recorded in public minutes. The appointment of a hearing officer was taken after the board returned to open session.
